Capacitor

Storing charge between two plates, a capacitor resists sudden changes in voltage and passes AC more easily as frequency rises; both polarized and non-polarized types are available. Circuits with this tag cover RC charging and discharging curves, the timing capacitor in transistor multivibrators and 555 oscillators, smoothing the ripple after a rectifier, and filters and resonant RLC circuits viewed on the oscilloscope. For example, "Capacitive Voltage Divider" places two capacitors in series on an AC source and measures how the voltage divides between them.
