Ohm's Law Lab: Resistor, Potentiometer and Two Meters

A 21.4 V battery across a 5 kΩ potentiometer sets the voltage on a 341.88 Ω resistor. An inline ammeter reads the current and an inline voltmeter the…

How it works

Turn the potentiometer knob and watch both displays: the V meter across the 341.88 Ω resistor shows its voltage and the A meter, in series below it, shows the current through it.

Divide the two readings at any position and you get about 342 Ω every time, which is Ohm's law (V = I × R). Plot V against I and the slope of the straight line is the resistance.

  • 1× Battery
  • 1× Resistor (342 Ω)
  • 1× Potentiometer
  • Measured with Voltmeter/Ammeter
